Kingston, RI — The La Salle University women's soccer team picked up their biggest win of the season Thursday night, stunning Atlantic 10 contender Rhode Island with a gritty 1-0 road victory at the URI Soccer Complex.
After a quiet start to the game, freshman Kayden Williams delivered the breakthrough, burying a header that would become the game-winner in the 77th minute off a perfectly placed assist from junior Rylee Henson. The strike silenced the Rams and earned the Explorers their first A-10 win of the year.
The moment capped off a complete team performance, as goalkeeper Mackenna Yaracs stood tall with four massive saves to notch her second shutout of the season. Despite being outshot 16-6, La Salle's back line absorbed the pressure and came up with clutch stops time and again to protect the lead.
With the win, the Explorers move to 4-4-1 (1-1 A-10) and pick up major ground in the conference standings. They will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup this Sunday at home against George Mason who are off to an undefeated start in conference play.
