Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle women's soccer team stormed back from a two-goal deficit to earn a thrilling 3-2 win over George Mason on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. With the victory, the Explorers improved to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Patriots dropped to 3-6-2 and 2-1-0.
George Mason struck early, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Ariana Bliven finished off a chance from close range. The Patriots doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark as Zoë Vidaurre found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
The Explorers regrouped at halftime and quickly clawed back into the match. Less than three minutes into the second half, sophomore Ella Cadigan buried her third goal of the season to cut the deficit in half. La Salle then drew level in the 71st minute as sophomore forward Kameron Rase slotted home her second goal of the year off an assist from freshman Kayden Williams. Just under two minutes later, senior midfielder Elizabeth Estrada completed the comeback, calmly converting a penalty kick to push the Explorers in front, 3-2.
Senior goalie Mackenna Yaracs anchored the La Salle defense with four saves in goal, including key stops late to preserve the win. Estrada led the attack with six shots, while Cadigan and Rase both netted pivotal tallies during the rally.
La Salle finished with a 15-13 edge in shots and held off a late push from the Patriots to secure the conference victory.
The Explorers return to action next Sunday when they travel to face Richmond in another A-10 matchup.
