Men's Soccer Falls Short To Nationally Ranked Saint Louis

St. Louis, MO – The La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 road decision at #8 nationally ranked Saint Louis on Saturday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. With the result, the Explorers move to 1-3-5 overall and 0-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Billikens improve to 5-2-3 and remain unbeaten in the conference at 2-0-0.

La Salle opened the scoring in the 56th minute when junior midfielder Alexandru Zama slotted home his second goal of the season off a setup from graduate student Sean Yurgel to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Saint Louis responded quickly, leveling the match just four minutes later through Theo Franca, who finished a pass from Sam Coughlan to tie the game at 1-1. The Billikens completed the comeback in the 78th minute when Nick Schramm found the back of the net off assists from Abdoul Karim Pare and Carlos Leatherman.

The Explorers had a chance to equalize late after earning a penalty in the 88th minute, but sophomore forward Pedro Amadou's attempt was saved by Billikens goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel. Both sides saw red cards after the conclusion of the game, with Sofus Ulrich of La Salle and Xavi O'Neil of Saint Louis each sent off.

Senior goalie Tino Kneis made five saves in goal for La Salle, while Abonnel stopped two shots to preserve the win for Saint Louis.

La Salle finished with six shots, including three on target, while Saint Louis recorded 11 attempts and seven on frame.

The Blue and Gold continue their road trip with a trip to Richmond, VA to take on VCU next Saturday at 7 pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
