Women's Basketball Falls Just Short In 62-58 Loss To Davidson

Philadelphia, PA -  On Sunday afternoon, the La Salle women's basketball team came up just short against Davidson in a tightly contested Atlantic 10 matchup, falling 62-58 at John E. Glaser Arena. The Explorers battled back from a double-digit deficit, closing the gap to two points in the final seconds before Davidson sealed the game at the free-throw line. With the loss, La Salle moves to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Davidson controlled the tempo from the opening tip, jumping out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and maintaining a 25-18 advantage at halftime. La Salle began to chip away in the third quarter with a 21-18 edge, narrowing the deficit to four entering the final frame. The Explorers' defensive pressure forced 21 Davidson turnovers and fueled a late-game surge, as sophomore Joan Quinn sank two free throws and a clutch step-back jumper in the closing moments to make it a one-possession game. Despite the late rally, Davidson converted four free throws in the final seconds to hold off the comeback and secure the win.

Quinn led the Explorers with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. Quinn's performance brought her career scoring total to 490, leaving her just 10 points shy of the 500-point milestone as a sophomore. Kiara Williams delivered 14 points and recorded three steals. Redshirt junior Ashleigh Connor extended her double-digit scoring streak to 10 consecutive games, finishing with 13 points and a team-high four assists. Aryss Macktoon remained the defensive anchor, leading La Salle with six rebounds and five steals, surpassing 250 career rebounds and reaching 68 steals this season to continue her pursuit of the program single-season record.

La Salle forced 21 turnovers and tallied a 22-11 edge in points off turnovers, but was outscored 38-20 in the paint and outrebounded 38-26. The Explorers shot 38.5 percent from the field, while Davidson finished at 45.8 percent. The Explorers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21, traveling to Chicago to face Loyola Chicago in another Atlantic 10 contest at Gentile Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
