PHILADELPHIA, PA – The La Salle men's basketball team earned it's seventh win of the season, stunning Dayton with a thrilling 67-64 victory on Wednesday night at John E. Glaser Arena, snapping the Flyers' perfect Atlantic 10 record.
Graduate student guard Jaeden Marshall led all scorers with 25 points, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Marshall knocked down four 3-pointers for the second straight game and also shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Graduate student forward Josiah Harris contributed 10 points, while Rob Dockery, Jerome Brewer Jr., and Truth Harris each added seven points.
The Explorers (7-13, 3-4 A-10) raced out to a commanding 33-8 lead in the first half, fueled by hot shooting from Marshall and relentless defense. La Salle's bench provided a spark, with the reserves outscoring Dayton's bench 31-11 in the opening 20 minutes. By halftime, La Salle held a 40-29 advantage.
Dayton (14-5, 5-1 A-10) found its footing in the second half, gradually chipping away at the deficit behind Keonte Jones' double-double. With less than a minute left, the Flyers cut La Salle's lead to just one point. In a pressure-packed sequence, Jerome Brewer Jr. calmly sank two critical free throws with 21 seconds remaining to push the lead back to three.
The Explorers then delivered a final defensive stand, forcing a missed three-pointer on Dayton's last possession to secure the victory.
La Salle's defensive intensity was a decisive factor, holding Dayton to just 13% (3-of-23) from 3-point range, a new season best for perimeter defense. The Explorers led for nearly 38 minutes and weathered a 35-27 Dayton surge in the second half, making timely plays on both ends.
La Salle heads to New York for an Atlantic 10 matchup against Fordham in The Bronx on Wednesday, Jan. 28, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
