BRONX, N.Y. – The La Salle men's basketball team (7-14, 3-5 A-10) suffered a 64-58 loss at Fordham (11-10, 2-6 A-10) in Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday night at Rose Hill Gymnasium, despite leading by as many as 10 points in the first half.
Redshirt junior forward Jerome Brewer Jr. paced the Explorers with 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting, adding seven rebounds in 37 minutes.
Redshirt sophomore guard Rob Dockery stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, a career-high nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Freshman guard Ashton Walker chipped in 10 points and four assists, also finishing perfect from the stripe.
La Salle started strong, building a 10-point lead midway through the first half before Fordham rallied to trim the margin. The Explorers entered halftime ahead 34-32. The second half remained tight, with La Salle clinging to a slim advantage until a late surge by the Rams.
Despite a determined defensive effort, the Explorers went scoreless over the final 5:52, missing their last eight field goal attempts as Fordham closed the contest on a 9-0 run. DeJour Reaves' jumper with 13 seconds left sealed the result for the Rams.
La Salle returns home to John E. Glaser Arena to host Saint Joseph's in a Big 5 rivalry matchup on Saturday, Jan. 31, with tip-off set for 2:30 p.m. The game will be featured as part of Coaches vs. Cancer and Gold Out festivities.
