Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle women's basketball team came up just short in a fiercely competitive Big 5 rivalry on Wednesday night, falling 69-65 to Saint Joseph's at John E. Glaser Arena. The Explorers erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit with a spirited late push, but could not overcome the Hawks down the stretch. La Salle moves to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play following the loss.
Sophomore Joan Quinn paced La Salle with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting, including four three-pointers, while adding three rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes. Redshirt freshman Kiara Williams, a two-time Big 5 Rookie of the Week, poured in 17 points on 7-for-11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds before fouling out late. Redshirt junior Ashleigh Connor nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and a career-high eight assists, while junior Aryss Macktoon tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals, continuing her run as one of the top defenders in the nation.
La Salle's effort was marked by its competitive spirit and defensive tenacity, leading to 16 assists on 25 made field goals. The Explorers forced six lead changes and five ties against a Saint Joseph's squad that has historically controlled the series.
