Washington D.C. - The La Salle women's basketball team used a suffocating third-quarter defensive performance to secure a 67-52 road victory against George Washington on Saturday afternoon. The win completes a season sweep of GW and improves the Explorers' record to 14-11.
La Salle established an early lead, heading into halftime with a 35-29 advantage. The game was decided in the third quarter when the Explorers' defense put on a clinic, holding George Washington to just three points on 0/10 shooting from the field. La Salle outscored GW 15-3 in the period, capped by a layup from Joan Quinn, to take a commanding 50-32 lead into the final frame. The Explorers maintained a comfortable double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Redshirt junior Ashleigh Connor paved the way for the Explorers with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, going 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Redshirt freshman Kiara Williams provided a major spark with 14 points on an efficient 6-for-8 shooting in only 11 minutes of play before fouling out. Sophomore Joan Quinn had a strong all-around game with 13 points, four rebounds and a team-high three steals, bringing her career total to 99. Junior Aryss Macktoon controlled the boards with a team-best 11 rebounds and added two steals, moving her season total to 87, just three shy of the program's single-season record.
Freshman Amiya Moses delivered a perfect performance off the bench, scoring eight points on 4-for-4 shooting while setting a new career high with three assists. As a team, La Salle shot 44.1 percent from the field and relied on getting to the line, making 14 free throws. The defense held George Washington to just 32.2 percent shooting.
The Explorers return home to the John E. Glaser Arena to face Rhode Island on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff and will be streamed on ESPN+.
