Women's Basketball Takes Down Atlantic 10 Frontrunner Rhode Island At Home

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle women's basketball team delivered its most dramatic performance of the season, erasing a 14-point deficit to topple Rhode Island 63-59 in an intense Atlantic 10 battle. The comeback victory improves the Explorers' record to 15-11 as they continue their push in conference play.

The afternoon began with the Explorers struggling to find their rhythm, trailing 20-10 after the first quarter and falling behind by as many as 14 early in the second. La Salle slowly chipped away, closing the gap to just two points at halftime behind increased defensive pressure and timely baskets. Rhode Island pushed the margin back to seven entering the fourth, but the Explorers surged with a 24-13 final quarter, highlighted by a pivotal 8-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from Joan Quinn. With 3:38 remaining, Ashleigh Connor tied the game at 54-all, and Quinn's driving layup with just over three minutes left put La Salle ahead for good. Connor then iced the contest at the line, hitting four clutch free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Joan Quinn led the way with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 2-for-3 from long range and a perfect 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. Her poise down the stretch proved decisive, with a critical field goal in the closing minutes and a team-high block. Ashleigh Connor contributed 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Aryss Macktoon added 13 points and five boards in a high-minute effort, playing a vital role on both ends, while Lauren Patnode held the Rams' leading scorer, Brooklyn Gray, to five points on nine shots.

The game marks the highest-ranked opponent Mountain MacGillivray has defeated in his La Salle career, taking down No. 26 in the AP Poll.

La Salle returns to action Sunday for a road matchup at Richmond inside the Robins Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m., and the game can be streamed live on ESPN+.
