Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest At RV Richmond

Richmond, VA - La Salle women's basketball suffered a 92-58 defeat to Richmond in conference action Sunday afternoon at the Robins Center. The Explorers dropped to 15-12 overall and 8-8 in Atlantic 10 play after struggling to contain the Spiders' offense despite several a strong offensive first half.

The Explorers opened the game with energy, jumping out to a 21-16 first-quarter lead behind balanced scoring and aggressive play. However, Richmond swung momentum with a 17-4 run late in the second quarter, turning a La Salle lead into an 11-point halftime deficit. After narrowing the gap to eight late in the third, the Explorers were unable to sustain a run, and Richmond broke the game open to start the fourth quarter, outscoring La Salle 28-6 in the final frame.

Ashleigh Connor led La Salle with 15 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, surpassing 200 career assists in the process. Aryss Macktoon contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds, while sophomore Joan Quinn extended her double-figure scoring streak to seven games and reached 400 career points with 11 on the day. Freshman Lauren Patnode delivered a career-best performance in the loss, tallying nine points on three three-pointers.

La Salle was outscored 50-6 in bench points and struggled to slow Richmond's perimeter attack, as the Spiders shot 48.4 percent from three and recorded 22 assists on 34 made field goals. Despite the lopsided result, La Salle committed only 10 turnovers, tying their second-lowest mark of the season, and forced more than they gave up for the 20th time this season.

The Explorers will remain in Richmond to face VCU at the Siegel Center on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. La Salle previously defeated VCU at home in December, with Macktoon leading the way with 21 points. Anna Przyszlak added 15 points on a career-high three made shots from beyond the arc.
