Macktoon's Career-High 28 Leads Women's Basketball Past VCU

Richmond, VA – The La Salle women's basketball team earned a commanding 71-54 conference road victory over VCU on Wednesday night, fueled by a historic performance from junior Aryss Macktoon. The win improves the Explorers to 16-12, matching their highest win total since the 2022-23 season.

After a closely contested first quarter that ended with La Salle ahead 11-9, the Explorers blew the game open in the second. La Salle mounted a 26-11 run, shooting an impressive 67 percent from the field in the period to build a 37-20 lead by halftime. The Explorers maintained control for the remainder of the contest, leading for nearly 32 minutes and never allowing the Rams to threaten the outcome.

Macktoon was the catalyst for the offense, delivering the one of the best performances of her career. She scored a career-high 28 points on 12-for-21 shooting, also a new personal best for field goals made. She added 10 rebounds to secure her sixth double-double of the season and filled the stat sheet with a team-high four assists and a game-high four steals.

Several other Explorers reached significant milestones in the victory. Freshman forward Kiara Williams provided a crucial secondary scoring punch with 13 points, surpassing the 250-point mark for her young career. Off the bench, senior Ivona Miljanic drained three 3-pointers for her nine points, eclipsing 500 career points.

As a team, La Salle dominated the turnover battle, converting 15 VCU miscues into 25 points while the Rams managed just five points off seven Explorer turnovers.

The Explorers will conclude their regular season at home when they host Loyola Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tip-off from John E. Glaser Arena is set for 1 p.m. as the team celebrates senior day, recognizing five graduating players.
