PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's lacrosse team (2-2) fell to UMBC (2-1) 21-3 at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
UMBC scored the first two goals of the game before Bri McClain put La Salle on the board with a man-up tally, assisted by Emi Waldron, to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Retrievers responded with a five-goal run to close the first quarter with a 7-1 advantage.
The visitors continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, extending their lead to 9-1 by halftime. Goalkeeper Mary Babbage faced a barrage of shots, recording 11 saves in the game and surpassing 250 for her career. In the third period, Mia Riccitelli scored a man-up free position goal, her 10th career score.
Waldron added a man-down goal in the fourth quarter in what was her 50th career game. The senior also surpassed 100 career shots in the contest. UMBC held a 41-20 advantage in shots and a 24-8 edge in ground balls, capitalizing on extra possessions to secure the victory.
La Salle returns to McCarthy Stadium to host Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Feb. 21. Opening draw is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
