PHILADELPHIA, PA – La Salle women's lacrosse earned a 21-6 victory over Central Connecticut State at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Explorers (3-2) took command early and erupted for a 9-0 third quarter to secure the win.
Senior attacker Emi Waldron starred for the Explorers, leading all players with six points and five goals on six shots on goal. She was deadly accurate, converting both free position attempts and helping to spark the offense with four draw controls and two ground balls.
Junior attacker Kate Licciardi played the role of facilitator, notching three assists to go along with two goals and contributing on the defensive end with a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Senior attacker Sam Klein registered a hat trick and added an assist, while junior midfielder Kayla Norris filled the stat sheet with two goals, one assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
In goal, senior captain Mary Babbage anchored the defense with 11 saves and a .688 save percentage. La Salle's defensive pressure was relentless, forcing 17 turnovers and collecting 26 ground balls while limiting their opponent to just one goal after halftime.
The opening quarter set the tone with La Salle jumping ahead 6-2, and by halftime the lead stood at 9-5 after a late goal from Natalie Riccitelli. The third quarter proved decisive as the Explorers went on a 9-0 run.
Central Connecticut State's Amaya Monacelli led her team with a hat trick.
La Salle hits the road to face Lafayette on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
