Pawleys Island, SC - The La Salle University women's golf team opened its spring schedule this weekend at the Battle at the Beach, competing at the picturesque Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club. Facing a strong field, the Explorers placed 12th overall after 36 holes.

La Salle ended the tournament with a team score of 691, finishing 115 strokes over par. The Explorers were led by freshman Jewel Schaefer, who posted rounds of 85 and 84 to finish 45th at 25 over par. Senior Sydnie Leavery delivered a strong second round with an 82, moving her into a tie for 49th at 27 over.

Sophomore Samantha Song contributed with an 85 in her opening round and closed the event at 33 over par, while senior Nina Okenkova recorded rounds of 92 and 87 for a two-day total of 179. Senior Hannah Gammons rounded out the lineup, finishing at 41 over par. The tournament served as a valuable learning experience for the group, providing opportunities to compete under pressure and adapt to challenging conditions on a notable course.

The Explorers will return to action in over a month when the team travels to Grasonville, MD to participate in the JEL Intercollegiate for a third consecutive season.
