Lewisburg, PA – The La Salle women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Bucknell on Sunday afternoon at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.
Junior goalkeeper Samantha Widnick made six saves in the contest, including five in the opening half. Widnick recorded three saves in the first three minutes of the afternoon for the Explorers, highlighted by two diving stops.
Ella Cadigan and Shiloh Moore each registered two shots on goal for La Salle.
The Bison struck first in the eighth minute on a strike from Katie Connell off a feed by Gaby Parker. Bucknell stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute on a goal by Ingrid Murphy, with Parker picking up her second assist of the game.
In the first half, Bucknell's goalkeeper Sarah McFarland made five saves on shots from five different Explorers. McFarland finished the game with seven saves.
The Explorers' best opportunity came in the 52nd minute. McFarland went down at the edge of the 18-yard box after a collision with Justyce Hollenbach. However, Moore's shot on target was blocked by Bucknell defender Emma Gavin, who was standing on the back edge of the six-yard box.
Moments later, the Bison went on a counterattack, and Murphy answered with her second goal of the game to give Bucknell a 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. In the 67th minute, Tennessee Murphy scored to give Bucknell a four-goal lead.
Bucknell finished the game with a 17-15 advantage in shot attempts and a 9-7 edge in shots on target.
La Salle will return to Philadelphia to host Drexel at McCarthy Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
