WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three Explorers combine 3-2 over George Washington to give men's soccer their first Atlantic 10-opening win since October 11, 2013, over Duquesne.
The Explorers opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal from junior Alberto "Toto" Esquivel Meza in the eighth minute. The Revolutionaries answered back with a goal in the 34th minute. In the 37th minute, sophomore Davin Millisock scored off assists from senior Alexandru Zama and graduate student Maximilian Retzer, to give the Explorers the lead in the first half. Retzer's assist is his first at the collegiate level. Not even ten minutes after substituting into the second half, junior Pedro Amadou scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Esquivel Meza. George Washington scored from a free kick in the last minute of play, but it was not enough to mount their own revolution.
The Explorers and Revolutionaries tied in shots, with 16 each. George Washington had seven shots on goal to La Salle's six. In addition to his goal, Millisock recorded three shots and two shots on goal in the contest. Other teammates with three shots in the match include junior Gabe Faust and senior Kyrese Lynch-Bailey. Zama recorded two shots with one on goal, with sophomore Julius de Vries also recording two shots.
In addition to his assist, Retzer made five saves in goal for the Blue & Gold.
The Explorers improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while George Washington falls to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
La Salle returns home for their next match for their second conference match, taking on Dayton on Saturday, September 26. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium, being livestreamed on ESPN+.
