West Long Branch, NJ – Four goal scorers combine to bring the La Salle men's soccer team to a three-game win streak, with a victory on Sunday over Monmouth.
Junior Alberto "Toto" Esquivel Meza opened the scoring with the only goal in the first half, a penalty kick in the 15th minute. Junior Gabe Faust was eager to score in the second half, with a goal in the 47th minute. This was his fifth goal in as many games, bringing his season point total to 10.
Sophomore Julius de Vries joined in on the fun with a goal in the 51st minute, scoring in back-to-back contests for the Explorers. Senior Kyrese Lynch-Bailey bookended the scoring with his own penalty kick goal in the 54th minute. Sophomore Davin Millisock assisted on the Faust and de Vries goals, a career-high in a single game.
Monmouth scored two goals in the second half, but it was not enough to mount a comeback. La Salle outshot the Hawks 17-16, and had 10 shots on goal to their seven.
Graduate student Maxamilian Retzer made 5 saves in the contest, only allowing two goals.
The Explorers end their road trip and return home Saturday, facing Rider in a 6 P.M. matchup, livestreamed on ESPN+.
