Box Score

PHILADELPHIA- On the day in which La Salle Lacrosse bid farewell to its senior class in the team's final home game, it piled on three goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation to knot the game at six a piece to force overtime. La Salle and George Washington played four overtimes, where the Explorers fell 7-6 in sudden death.

Sunday's game opened with the Colonials putting up a 2-0 lead to begin the game, but the Explorers had answers as they responded with goals from freshman Lauren McDermott and sophomore Nora McGurkin before the teams went into the halftime intermission.

McGurkin's goal was the beginning of a productive afternoon, as she finished with a four-point day (three goals and an assist).

Deadlocked at two to begin the second half, George Washington and La Salle exchanged goals, before the Colonials scored three straight times. Sophomore Megan Seidman scored two of three goals in that stretch, to give herself three tallies on the day.

In her final game as an Explorer in front of the home crowd, senior Stefany McKee looked to start a comeback for La Salle when she scored after taking a pass from McGurkin at the 17:34 mark.

Needing two goals, McGurkin and freshman Melanie Sarcinello answered the call, as they scored within five minutes of each other to tie the game at six with 3:17 remaining.

With eight seconds remaining in regulation, senior Jill Davis had the opportunity to win it for the Explorers when she was granted the final shot of regulation in the form of a free position.

A save by junior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman is what sent the Colonials and Explorers into extended play.

Going scoreless in both segments of the first overtime session is what pushed the game into sudden victory. The Colonials pulled out the game-winner in the fourth overtime on Nicole Lacey's goal to give George Washington its second consecutive win.

Defensively for the Explorers, sophomore Sara Ciaverelli finished with a pair of ground balls and caused turnovers, while sophomore Rachel Baker caused three of George Washington's 15 turnovers.  Sophomore Megan Corliss stopped a season-high 17 shots in goal for the Explorers, which includes 10 saves in the second half.

Now 7-6 on the year and 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play, the Explorers have two games remaining on their 2010 schedule. On Friday, La Salle will take on the Temple Owls. The opening draw control at Temple's Geasey Field is slated for 4 p.m.
