PHILADELPHIA - La Salle head women's basketball coach
Jeff Williams will be honored by the Black Women in Sport Foundation at the 2011 Legends Reception, held Friday, October 28 at Mitchell & Titus at 6 PM. Williams will be honored along with Lincoln University Athletic Director Dianthia Ford-Kee.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by the Black Women in Sport Foundation,” Williams said. “The organization has been a pillar in increasing the involvement of black women and girls in all aspects of sport and I am glad to be a part of what will be a wonderful night.”
Williams enters his second season at the helm of the La Salle women's basketball program in 2011-12. During his first season on 20th and Olney, Williams guided his squad to the Atlantic 10 Tournament and won three times as many conference games as the year before.
The Explorers picked up several honors in the first year of Williams' tenure. Senior Ashley Gale was named to the Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Defensive Team, while earning the league's 'Most Improved Player' award, and also earned All-Big 5 First Team honors.
Jess Koci earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors after being one of the league's top rebounders as a freshman.
Williams spent the prior seven seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, including the last four as the Associate Head Coach. Williams helped guide the Panthers to postseason appearances in the past five seasons, including three straight NCAA Tournament trips with Sweet Sixteen showings in 2008 and 2009. He was formally introduced at a press conference on Wednesday, March 23, 2010 and became the program's eighth head coach.
The Black Women in Sport Foundation is resolute in facilitating the involvement of women of color in every aspect of sport in the United States and around the world, through the "hands-on" development and management of grass roots level outreach programs.
