PHILADELPHIA
- Michea Bryant tied her career high with 16 points to help the La Salle women's basketball team hold off a pesky Penn squad 58-47 in Big 5 action on Tuesday night. The Explorers improve to 2-3 (1-0 Big 5) while the Quakers drop to 2-1 (0-1 Big 5).

Alexis Scott added 13 points and Ruvanna Campbell posted her second straight double-digit rebounding effort with 11 boards. Campbell also blocked four shots for the second consecutive game to bring her season total to 16.

The Explorer defense held Penn's Alyssa Baron, who averaged 28.5 points per game before tonight, to just six points. Kathleen Roche led the visitors with 12 points and Jess Knapp chipped in 11.

The Explorers got out to a fast start, taking a nine-point lead at 11-2 just after the second media timeout. The Quakers got within six on a Kara Bonenberger three-point play but a 7-0 Explorer run capped by a Scott jumper at 6:08 pushed the home lead back to 13 as the Explorers went up 20-7.

The Explorers held a 27-19 lead at the break, but the Quakers came out to a 17-7 run to start the second half and take a two-point lead (36-34) with a Roche trey at the 11:29 mark.

That was the only lead the Quakers would take though as the Explorers opened the game up with a 21-4 run spanning the next 10 minutes to put the score at 55-40 with 1:54 remaining. Jordan Mosley banked two jumpers and a trey, scoring all seven of her points in that span. The Explorers never relinquished the double-digit lead at that point.

The win pushes the Explorers' all-time record over Penn to 33-6. The Blue & Gold have never lost to the Quakers in Tom Gola Arena. They also played spoiler to a Penn squad looking for its first-ever 3-0 start in program history.

The Explorers head back on the road later this week for two contests at Long Island University as part of the Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic. They play Florida on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a contest against host LIU on Saturday at 4 p.m.
