PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle lacrosse team fell to Delaware, 12-4 in its season and home opener at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Melanie Sarcinello scored two goals for La Salle, while Lauren McDermott and Samantha Tulskie each added one goal.
Megan Croliss made nine saves in goal for the Explorers.
The Blue Hens got on the board early, striking less than three minutes into the contest after a free position goal by Kalyn McDonough.
Delaware rattled off six more goals before La Salle got on the board with a free position goal by Sarcinello with 7:51 left in the first period.
Tulskie added her goal just over a minute later, but Delaware would end the half with two more goals of its own.
La Salle started the second half strong, adding two goals before the midpoint mark and holding off the Blue Hens.
Delaware notched its first of three goals in the second half with 13:26 to play on a free position attempt by Corrine Drost.
Delaware’s Julianna Jeffers ended her day with a hat trick.
La Salle collected 13 ground balls to Delaware’s 11. The Blue Hens controlled 10 draws, while the Explorers won eight.
The Explorers will remain at home to face Iona on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
