Sarcinello's Hat Tricks Pushes La Salle Past Presbyterian, 9-7

CLINTON, S.C. - Sophomore Melanie Sarcinello notched a hat trick for the Explorers as La Salle used a 5-0 run in the second half to defeat Presbyterian, 9-7, at Old Bailey Stadium.

Sarcinello put the Explorers ahead 7-6 with 17:20 to play in the second half to give La Salle the lead for good and help the squad improve to 3-2 on the season.

Junior Megan Corliss made 12 saves in goal for La Salle and junior Nora McGurkin picked up five ground balls.

It was Sarcinello who put the Explorers on the board first with a score two and a half minutes into the contest.

Presbyterian rattled off two straight goals before Sarcinello notched her second of the game with 19:12 to play in the first half to even up the contest.

The Blue Hose again notched a pair of back-to-back goals, but the Explorers would match Presbyterian.

The teams went into the break tied at 4 all after freshman Maggie O’Ferrall and sophomore Samantha Tulskie added goals with 3:37 and 2:37, respectively, remaining in the first half.

Katie Prisco added two straight goals for the Blue Hose to give them a 6-4 advantage, before La Salle scored five straight to re-take the lead and distance itself from Presbyterian.

During the run, McGurkin, freshman Katie Marasco, Sarcinello, junior Taylor Ruland and sophomore Lauren McDermott all chipped in goals.

The Explorers will remain down South and face Davidson on Friday. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
