ALFRED, N.Y. - Sophomore Melanie Sarcinello netted four goals and sophomore Samantha Tulskie tallied her first career hat trick in La Salle’s 15-10 loss to St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon in New York.
The contest was played on the campus of Alfred University due to poor field conditions at St. Bonaventure.
After trailing 6-3 at the break, the Explorers scored seven second-half goals, including three straight to close the gap to 12-9 with under seven minutes to play, but couldn’t over take the Bonnies.
La Salle took an early 2-1 lead with just over 21 minutes to play in the game after two scores by Sarcinello.
From there, St. Bonaventure reeled off five straight goals, three by Danielle Drabin, to put the Explorers in a 6-2 hole before a Lauren McDermott goal made the tally 6-3.
The two squads traded goals to open the second half, with Tulskie netting her first of the day for the Explorers. But the Bonnies would again go on an offensive run. They added four straight goals to push their lead to 11-4.
Two more goals for Sarcinello, her 31st and 32nd of the year, as well as one by Nora McGurkin got La Salle within three with 4:40 to play. However, the Bonnies responded with a trio of goals in the final minutes to put the contest out of reach.
Freshman Danielle Horn netted her first collegiate goal during the contest. Horn’s strike came with 14:14 remaining in the second half after La Salle cleared the ball after a Megan Corliss save.
Corliss would make 11 saves in the loss. Sarcinello and Nicole McCurdy each caused two turnovers. Sarcinello also picked up four ground balls.
Drabin, Christine Hanley and Cara Callahan all finished with four goals for St. Bonaventure.
La Salle will play its second-straight road contest against Duquesne on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
