PHILADELPHIA - The women’s lacrosse team fell 17-4 to the three-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Minutewomen in a Sunday morning game at McCarthy Stadium.

La Salle fell behind 0-2 in the opening minutes of the contest, but was able to rally back.

Melanie Sarcinello, Nora McGurkin, Samantha Tulskie and Allison Herman all added scores for the Explorers to give them a 4-3 lead with 15:15 remaining in the first half.

However, from there it was all UMass, as the Minutewomen shut down the La Salle attack for the remainder of the contest.

The Blue and Gold fell behind 7-4 at halftime.

The Minutewomen took 35 shots in the contest, compared to La Salle’s 13.

For UMass, Katie Ferris added a game-high four goals to go along with two assists.

La Salle will remain at home to face Richmond on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
