PHILADELPHIA - Kelly Furman, a midfielder from Boyertown High School, is the latest addition to the lacrosse team's class of 2015, announced head coach Candace Taglianetti.
Also a basketball and soccer standout, Furman comes to La Salle after scoring 105 goals and notching 70 assists in her lacrosse career at Boyertown.
“She is an excellent late addition to our program,” Taglianetti said. “She has the game sense that comes from being a multi-sport athlete. She has the potential to be a leader in the midfield for us.”
Furman initially thought she would attend Division III Ursinus College this fall and compete on both the lacrosse and soccer teams.
However, she caught the attention of Taglianetti by playing a dominate role in the Golden Bears' run to an eighth consecutive Pioneer Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the PIAA Tournament this spring.
“It was an offer I couldn't really look past,” said Furman during a mock signing ceremony at her high school in early June. “[Tagilanetti] talked to me the last week of April, I made one visit and they made an offer.”
Furman looked into playing soccer at La Salle as well but decided to put all her efforts into Division I lacrosse.
A first-team All-Pioneer Athletic Conference midfield selection, Furman was part of three conference lacrosse championships, as well as two basketball and one soccer title. She plans on majoring in chemistry at La Salle.
