Explorers Head To University City To Meet Penn On Wednesday Night

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle continues its four-game road trip but remains in Philadelphia when it visits city rival Penn on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM. The Explorers will look to carry the momentum from a 2-1 victory on Saturday at Saint Francis (Pa.).

“We are looking forward to playing Penn tomorrow evening at Franklin Field," head coach Michelle Marks said. "With our win this past weekend over Saint Francis, we are looking to bring momentum from that game into tomorrow's game.

"We are generating a lot of opportunities in our attacking end with corners and shots and need to continue finding a way to capitalize. Defensively we are playing well, which is anchored by Lisa Shaffer, who is performing great in goal. The game is going to be a good midweek test.”

Sophomore Olivia Shoemaker scored the game-winner with just over 10 minutes left to give La Salle a 2-1 victory over the Red Flash. Shoemaker now has four goals on the season, second on the team behind freshman Maddy Tettelbach's five. In fact, 13 of La Salle's 19 goals have been scored by freshmen or sophomores this season.

Tettelbach is currently fourth in the A-10 in goals per game and Shoemaker is fifth.

Another freshman, goalkeeper Lisa Shaffer is having an outstanding start to her collegiate career. She is eighth nationally in save percentage (.793) and ninth in saves per game (8.1). Shaffer leads the A-10 in saves and is second in save percentage.

The Blue and Gold is 2-2 in its last four games, but the two losses both came in overtime.

La Salle and Penn have only met four times and not since 2003.
