BOSTON - The La Salle women's basketball squad looks to extend a two-game win streak to three when the Explorers play at Northeastern on Monday at 7 p.m. The contest marks the final nonconference game of the season before opening Atlantic 10 play at Saint Louis on Saturday.
Monday's contest marks the fourth-ever meeting of the Explorers and Huskies, with the Explorers holding a 3-0 advantage. The teams have not squared off since 1982 when the Explorers took a 64-48 win in Philadelphia.
Scouting La Salle (5-9)...
The Explorers are winners of their last two contests as they went 2-0 at Dartmouth's Blue Sky Classic. They topped host Dartmouth 60-47 on Thursday, running out to an early lead and holding a double-digit advantage through the majority of the contest. They followed up with a 68-59 win over Vermont on Friday behind a La Salle career-best 29 points from
Brittany Wilson.
Wilson and
Alexis Scott were both named to the Blue Sky Classic All-Tournament Team.
Scott, who scored 14 points in both contests at Dartmouth, continues to lead the squad in scoring with a 13.7 ppg clip. Wilson upped her average to 12.2 and
Jada Payne rounds out the top three by chipping in 7.6 per game.
Ruvanna Campbell set another career/season high in rebounding against Dartmouth on Thursday, nabbing 16 boards. With 16 and then another seven against Vermont, Campbell averages 8.5 per contest and jumped up to third in the Atlantic 10 ranks.
Scouting Northeastern (2-9)...
The Huskies play tonight for the first time since Dec. 21. They won their second contest of the year in their last time out, downing Kent State 73-65 after placing four players in double figures. Jamie Conroy led the Huskies with 19 points behind an 11-for-13 performance at the free throw line and Genevieve Gaboriault added 18.
The win at Kent State snapped a three-game skid, as their other win of the season came over common opponent Vermont on Dec. 1 when they topped the Catamounts 78-62.
Two players average double figures, led by Jewel Tunstull's 13.2 ppg. Tunstull shoots at a 61.1 percent clip and is also the team's second-leading rebounder with 5.6 boards per game. Deanna Kerkhof is the other Husky in double figures, averaging 11.8 points per game while dishing out a team second-best 22 assists.
