PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey hosts Temple on Friday and travels to Saint Joseph's on Sunday in an Atlantic 10 double dip this weekend. The Friday tilt with the Owls is featured as the annual Explore-A-Cure breast cancer awareness field hockey event.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is once again raising awareness for Breast Cancer research during the month of October through its Explore-A-Cure campaign. To raise funds members of the organization are selling Explore-A-Cure lanyards for $3 and bracelets for $1. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle enters the weekend winners of three straight and four of its last five. Last weekend, the Explorers defeated Lock Haven 1-0 in their A-10 opener. Sophomore forward Colleen Kempf was credited with the lone goal, raising her season tally to four, good for second on the team.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Shaffer recorded three saves in the affair and has posted 92 on the season, good for second in the A-10. Her four shutouts stand atop the conference leaderboard in that category while her 0.31 shutouts/game rank ninth nationally.
The La Salle defense has been solid of late, allowing just five goals in the last five games. The team ranks ninth nationally with those four shutouts and Shaffer ranks 16th nationally in saves/game.

Scouting the Owls
Temple has been red hot, winning its last two and six of its last seven. The Owls most notable victory of the season came on September 16, when they knocked off #15 Drexel, 5-1. Five of the top 11 point scorers in the A-10 are Owls, led by sophomore Amber Youtz (2.64 points/game, first in A-10, seventh nationally). Youtz also ranks second in the conference in assists/game (0.50). As a team, Temple ranks 11th in the country in scoring average (3.03 goals/game) and 25th in assists/game (2.07) and leads the A-10 in four statistical offensive categories.

Scouting the Hawks
St. Joe's dropped St. Louis 1-0 on Sunday in its A-10 opener after beating Villanova 2-1 earlier in the week. Sophomore Jordan Martin far and away leads the conference in shots/game (4.85) while junior goalkeeper Kate Martin leads the A-10 in saves/game (7.38), ranking 14th nationally.

La Salle hosts Massachusetts on Friday, Oct. 19 at 3PM and VCU on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 12PM in a weekend homestand at Hank DeVincent Field. The VCU game will be Senior Day.
