PHILADELPHIA – Meghan McGlinchey has been named GoExplorers.com Student-Athlete of the Week for November 12. The recognition marks the seventh time in her career McGlinchey has received the honor, including twice in the last three weeks.
The senior placed second (215 runners) at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Event at Penn State on Friday afternoon, qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, November 17. With a time of 20:23 (6K), McGlinchey paced the La Salle women to a sixth place team finish (31-team field).
“The goal was to make NCAA's so I'm very happy I was finally able to do that,” McGlinchey said. “I'm hoping to stay tough and beat as many runners as I can.”
McGlinchey's runner-up finish is the highest ever for a La Salle women's cross country runner at a regional meet. Additionally, the West Deptford native is the first Explorer to qualify for the national championship since Rachel Papin in 2007.
“We are really excited for her [Meghan] to compete in the NCAA Championships next weekend,” head coach Dan Ireland said.
