PHILADELPHIA - Junior keeper
John McCarthy continues to rake in the postseason awards, this time being named to the
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team as voted on by the sports information directors in the 28 Philadelphia-area colleges and universities.
McCarthy's record-setting season saw him break La Salle's all-time career shutout record and all-time single-season shutout record en route to helping the squad to its third straight Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance. He currently has 23 career shutouts, surpassing the old record of 21 with one more year to continue adding to that number. He also led the Atlantic 10 with nine this season, eclipsing the old record of eight.
McCarthy finished the season nationally ranked in a number of categories while also leading the Atlantic 10. He was tops in the conference and eighth nationally with a .844 save percentage and first in the A-10 (fourth nationally) with 114 total saves.
He recently earned NSCAA All-Region First Team honors on top of his Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team accolade.
McCarthy sports a 3.32 GPA in La Salle's competitive Integrated Science, Business & Technology program.
