The Match-Up
La Salle owns a 12-11 all-time series edge over former conference-mate Fairfield after renewing the series last season. The Stags won last year's meeting 55-52 in Philadelphia behind 19 points from Katelyn Linney, while
Brittany Wilson scored a team-best 15 points for the Explorers. The Explorers' last win in the series was a 75-65 decision in 1992 when both squads were in the MAAC.
Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers raced out to a 21-10 lead halfway through the first period and never relinquished the double-digit lead after that in an eventual 70-46 win at Central Connecticut State on Wednesday. The 70 points was a season high for the Explorers, while CCSU's 46 points was the lowest total for an Explorer opponent this season.
Ebonee Jones poured in a career-high 22 points, besting her previous mark of 20 set on Dec. 28, 2010, at Maryland. She did so on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor while adding five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Jones jumped up in to the number two spot in the team scoring ranks, hitting 9.5 points per game.
Brittany Wilson also added 22 against the Blue Devils, marking her eighth 20+ point game of the season in 11 games. In contrast, she hit the 20-point mark six times total last season. She continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 19.5 ppg while corraling a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game.
Jess Koci also hit a new career mark, snagging seven steals in 18 minutes at CCSU. The seven thefts were the most for an Explorer this season.
Scouting the Stags
The Stags return to action following a 13-day break for final exams, and will be looking to snap a two-game skid. They fell to Lehigh 47-42 before dropping a 60-43 decision at No. 22 Iowa State in their last game on Dec. 9. Prior to the Lehigh game, they put together a five-game win streak.
La Salle will be Fairfield's third Atlantic 10 opponent this season, as the Stags have faced Butler and St. Bonaventure and pulled out wins in both.
Fairfield averages just 49.0 points per game; however, the Stags also hold opponents under 50 points per game as well (49.5 ppg). Katie Cizynski averages a team-best 11.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg, and Linney chips in 10.1 ppg.
Next Up
The Explorers return to action after Christmas when they host Saint Peter's on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.
