Men's Soccer Annual Awards Announced

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer program held its annual banquet, honoring the team's seniors and yearly award winners.

Family, friends and student-athletes in attendance enjoyed a morning of celebrating the team's accomplishments this past season, which included a third-straight trip to the Atlantic 10 Tournament, two All-Conference honorees, a Scholar All-American, four Scholar All-Region picks, and the best nonconference record in decades.

Senior Tom Kalpokas and junior Mike Stanton, both defenders, earned Co-MVP honors for anchoring the La Salle defense this season. Both players started every game this season, helping the squad record nine shutouts - including two in the final weekend - en route to the playoffs.

Both also recorded goals, as Kalpokas finished the season with two goals and one assist for five points and Stanton added one goal and one assist for three points. Stanton scored the equalizer with 36 seconds remaining in regulation in an eventual 3-2 overtime win in the season opener against Drexel, and added an assist on the tying goal in a draw with Lafayette. Kalpokas netted two goals in league play, including the tying goal in a 1-1 draw with Saint Joseph's and one of La Salle's three tallies in a 3-0 shutout of Duquesne. He also added an assist on the squad's goal in a 3-1 first round playoff loss to Saint Louis.

Joe Farrell earned Newcomer of the Year honors after finishing second on the team with 14 points in his rookie campaign. He scored five goals and tied for the team lead with four assists. He got his college career started with a bang, scoring the game winner in overtime in the season-opening win against Drexel for the first of his three game-winning tallies. He netted the tying goal in the Lafayette draw before scoring the game winner at Lehigh. Farrell scored two in conference play, including the game winner in a 4-0 win at George Washington and adding an insurance goal in the Duquesne win. His assists were also game changers, as he assisted on Stanton's game-tying goal against Drexel and the game winner in a 1-0 overtime victory against Fordham.

Kevin Pink, a recent NSCAA Scholar East Region honoree, earned the Bill Wilkinson Academic Player of the Year award. Pink, a defensive midfielder who started the final 14 games of the season, tallied the game-winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Long Island and assisted on the game winner in a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure. He also helped on the defensive end, assisting the La Salle defenders in recording nine shutouts this season. Pink sports a team-best GPA of 3.84 in the Integrated Science, Business & Technology program.
