The Match-Up
Saturday marks the 25th matchup between La Salle and Saint Peter's, with the series tied at 12-all. However, this will be the first meeting since 1992 when the two squads were conference-mates in the MAAC. The Peahens won the last meeting 73-71 in the 1992 MAAC Tournament championship game. The Explorers last picked up a win in the series on March 1, 1991, a 79-74 decision.
Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers posted back-to-back wins last week, most recently a 60-50 triumph at Fairfield on Dec. 22.
Shanel Harrison posted a game-high 16 points along with five rebounds to lead four players in double figures.
Karynda DuPree added a career-best 13 points along with five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Brittany Wilson had a near double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, along with six assists.
Ebonee Jones, coming off her career-high 22 points at Central Connecticut State, chipped in with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. The Explorers outrebounded the Stags 33-27 last Saturday as well.
The Explorers have found their stride as of late, shooting 44.6 percent at CCSU and then 45.5 percent at Fairfield. Both first halves featured shooting above 50 percent.
Wilson, the Atlantic 10 scoring leader, is pouring in 19.0 ppg. The guard also ranks sixth in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 37.9 percent of her long-range shots. She is also the team rebounding leader with 6.7 boards per game. DuPree is back in the Atlantic 10 rankings for blocked shots, rejecting 1.9 per game and has a total of 17 blocks. Jones adds 9.8 ppg and 4.7 rpg, and Harrison chips in 9.3 points and is second with 6.1 rebounds per outing.
Scouting the Peahens
Saint Peter's enters Saturday's contest still in search of its first win of the season. The Peahens have had a rough go this season, being outscored 70.1 to 48.0. They returned from Christmas break to drop a 62-40 decision to Hampton on Thursday. The closest the squad has come to its first W was a 69-62 overtime loss to Bucknell on Dec. 22.
Kristal Edwards leads the Peahens with 12.1 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.9 boards. Kaydine Bent adds a second-best 7.2 points per game while leading the squad in rebounding with 6.0 boards. Aziza May adds 7.1 points and a team-best 3.3 assists per outing.
