Dan Klem went yard in the fourth inning and La Salle halted a three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win at ETSU on Saturday afternoon.
Klem followed up a three-hit day on Friday with another strong offensive performance in game two and hit a two-run blast in the fourth that vaulted La Salle in front 3-1. He finished the day a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk.
George Smith Jr. continued his strong early-season performance and extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The sophomore also knocked home the first La Salle run of the day with an RBI single in the second inning. Smith continues to lead the club in hitting with a .413 batting average (19-for-46).
Brendan Norton stretched things out in the ninth with a two-run double to cap off the scoring.
The Explorers (6-7) received another strong offensive output from the bottom third of the lineup with seven of the 10 hits coming from the 7-9 spots in the order (Bennie, Klem, Baron).
Kevin Christy (1-0) turned in another quality start on the hill and went six frames for his first win of the year. The righty allowed two runs off five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Christy leads the Explorers with 32 punchouts in 23 innings pitched this season.
Christensen tallied his third save of the year and went the final two innings to seal it. The junior is now two saves shy of tying the all-time La Salle career record of 29.
La Salle and ETSU settle the three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
