NEWARK, Del. - The La Salle women's lacrosse team defeated Delaware, 9-8, on Saturday.
Melanie Sarcinello,
Kelly Furman, and
Jackie Roebuck all had two goals for the Explorers.
The Blue and Gold have now won three straight games.
Senior
Megan Corliss made 10 saves for La Salle in the win.
The game was back and fourth at the outset. A Nora McGukin goal off a feed by Sarcinello gave the Explorers a 5-4 egde at halftime and they would stay ahead for the remainder of the game.
La Salle took a 6-4 lead after the half thanks to a Sarcinello goal with an assist by Furman.
Delaware got it within one again at 7-6 near the midpoint of the second half, but Furman responded with a goal of her own to give the Explorers a two-point lead again. Just a few seconds later, Roebuck scored to make it a three-point game at 9-6 at the 7:09 mark of the second half.
La Salle was able to hold off a late-game rally by the Blue Hens. Delaware added goals with 3:08 and :25 remaining to make the final score 9-8.
Delaware held a 13-5 edge in draw controls, but La Salle picked up 19 ground balls to Delaware's 14.
Also scoring for La Salle was Caitlin Brostrand and
Lauren McDermott.
For Delaware, Shannon Burns had three goals.
The Explorers will host Lafayette at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
