RADFORD, Va. - Despite trailing 8-2 after the second inning, the La Salle baseball team brought the go ahead run to the plate in the ninth before falling short in an 8-5 loss at Radford on Tuesday afternoon.
Marc Schoch hit a three-run homer in the eighth to bring La Salle within three runs and was at the plate with the bases loaded in the ninth with a chance to complete the comeback, but a groundout ended the game. Schoch finished the game 1-for-5 with three RBI and the home run, his first of the season.
The Explorers (5-5) got another quality outing from their bullpen, holding Radford scoreless for the final five innings of the game.
Redshirt freshman
Adam Cherry made his collegiate debut and was lights out. The righty pitched 3.2 scoreless and hitless frames with no walks and four strikeouts. Another freshman,
Ryan Swearingen, also posted a shutout two innings for the Explorers down the stretch.
