AMHERST, MASS. – The lacrosse team fell 20-7 to #9/#16 Massachusetts on Friday afternoon on the road at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
With the win, the Minutewomen (15-1, 6-0) clinch the Atlantic 10 regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming A-10 championship.
Senior
Nora McGurkin led La Salle (9-6, 2-4).with two goals and two assists. Freshman
Claire Andrews each added two goals for La Salle. Senior
Sara Ciaverelli picked up four ground balls.
The Minutewomen took 34 shots in the game, compared to the Explorers' 16. UMass also held a 20-6 edge in draws. Four Minutewomen each added four goals.
Freshman
Caitlyn Brostrand scored the first goal of the game, at the 29:18 mark off a free position shot. However, UMass had worked to a 14-1 lead by halftime.
The Minutewomen scored twice after the break, but then back-to-back goals by
Alanna Diffendal and Andrews made the score 16-3 by the 17:11 mark of the second half.
Junior
Melanie Sarcinello also scored for La Salle in the second half.
The Explorers will return to McCarthy Stadium for their final regular season contest against Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Beginning at 12:45 p.m. there will be a ceremony honoring the eight graduating lacrosse seniors.
