PHILADELPHIA – La Salle senior right-hander
Kevin Christy has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today in voting conducted by the city's head coaches and sports information contacts.
Christy broke the La Salle career strikeout record with the 223
rd of his career during a 5-1 victory at Saint Joseph's on Sunday. He had five whiffs in the contest to pass
Kevin Fuqua, who fanned 222 from 2008-11.
The North Penn graduate scattered five hits and allowed one earned run to lower his ERA to 2.67 this spring. He did not allow a runner past first base until the fifth inning.
Christy ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in ERA and is second with 81 strikeouts.
The senior is now tied for seventh all-time at La Salle with 12 wins. He ranks fourth in appearances (72) and innings (240.1), eighth in ERA (4.08) and tenth in starts (30).
His 2.67 ERA would rank fourth on the single season list if the season ended today and his 81 strikeouts are the third most in a single season and the most since 2006.
Temple's Matt Elko was named the Big 5 Player of the Week.
La Salle (20-29, 7-14 A-10) visits West Virginia on Tuesday at 5 PM in its final non-conference game of the season.
