PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's track squad heads to the 2012 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships this weekend on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.
The Explorers look to turn several top performances this spring into conference titles, as the squad boasts several of the A-10's best times this season.
Meghan McGlinchey, who will run both the 5K and 10K this weekend, is the top seed in both events. She ran the A-10's best 5K of the season at the Penn Relays, narrowly missing a school record with a 16:20.76. Her time tops other league runners by nearly 13 seconds. She also owns the A-10's best 10K time, clocking a 33:46.04 at Stanford early in the season.
Meghan Lutz and
Anne Areias will also run the 10K, and both have posted top-11 times in the conference this spring. Lutz's time of 35:27.27 at the Penn Relays is the sixth-best A-10 time.
Caitlin Storbeck looks to contend for the 1500m title. She captured gold in the indoor mile this winter and currently has the sixth-best 1500m time in the A-10 this spring as she clocked a 4:30.86 at the George Mason Patriot Invitational.
Wendy Hutchinson, the fourth seed heading into this weekend's 800m race, looks to contend for the title as well. She posted a 2:11.00 at George Mason.
Hutchinson and Storbeck will combine with
Karim Brooks and
Tori Pisco in the 4x800 relay that is always a contender in the A-10 championship. Hutchinson, Pisco and Storbeck were three of the four runners who recently set a school record in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays a week ago.
The Explorers also have entries in the springs, as well as the hurdles, high jump, long jump, and 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
