Shoemaker Scores Two Goals In 4-3 Win At Pacific

Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. - Junior Olivia Shoemaker scored two goals to lead the La Salle field hockey team to a 4-3 victory at Pacific on Sunday afternoon. Senior Maddie Doub and junior Mariel Papa each tallied a goal as well for the Explorers, who recorded their first victory of the season.

"After a tough loss on Friday, I was very pleased with the outcome of today's game," head coach Michelle Marks said. "We were able to generate a lot of attack and capitalize on our offensive corners. It's great to get a win under our belt and we are looking to bring the momentum into our game tomorrow."

"It was a great team effort today," Shoemaker said. "We got a lot of production from all the forwards and the team overall. We worked hard today and really proved we are ready for this season. I'm proud of the team and ready for another win tomorrow."

Sophomore Lisa Shaffer made five saves while classmate Olivia Leaman had her second defensive save in as many games. Junior Heather Barretta also had a defensive save.

Pacific (1-1) got on the board first in the third minute but La Salle (1-1) responded eight minutes later when Doub found the back of the cage on a corner. The Tigers answered in the 14th minute to go ahead, 2-1, but the Papa took a rebounded shot at exactly 18:00  mark and scored for her first goal of the season. Barretta earned the assist.

In the 32nd minute, Shoemaker would take a pass from senior Janel Paukovits to give the Blue and Gold a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. Six minutes after halftime, Shoemaker would strike again, this time off a feed from senior Becca Chylack, to make it 4-2.

Pacific would score once more, in the 57th minute, but would get no closer.

Both teams had 11 penalty corners, while Pacific held a 17-15 edge in shots. Molly Macierz stopped five shots in the first half for the Tigers, while Maggie Corder had four saves in the second.

La Salle wraps up its California trip on Monday versus UC Davis at 5 PM (Eastern).
