Scouting the Explorers

The Explorers blanked Lehigh 2-0 on Wednesday night behind two second-half goals to wrap up a three-game Patriot League stretch. The squad got goals from Joe Farrell and Kameron Teel, along with five saves by keeper John McCarthy, in the shutout effort.

With his first collegiate game-winning goal and third on the season, Farrell moved into the team lead with eight points. Teel's goal was his first of the season to provide the insurance on Wednesday night. McCarthy improved his save percentage to .868 while recording his third shutout of the season.

Saturday's game marks the final nonconference home game for the Explorers, who then hit the road for three straight before returning home on Friday, October 5, to open the Atlantic 10 season against Fordham.

Scouting the Blackbirds

Long Island is coming off of a 2-1 setback to Fairfield, with two-time All-NEC pick Jakeem Johnson scoring the Blackbirds' lone goal. LIU is just 1-5 on the season, with its 1-0 win over Rider. Johnson has scored both of the team's goals this season.

LIU sports a young squad with eight freshmen and 13 sophomores. Johnson is the leading returning scorer on this year's squad after recording eight points on three goals and two assists in 2011. He was a preseason All-NEC pick by CollegeSportsMadness.com.

Nathan Stockie and John Connolly have split time in goal, starting three games apiece. Stockie was credited with the win against Rider and leads the goalies with a .850 save percentage and 17 saves.
