Field Hockey Hosts Bryant, Sacred Heart this Weekend


PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey will play host to Bryant and Sacred Heart this weekend in a pair on non-conference games at DeVincent Field.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle split a pair last weekend, knocking off Robert Morris 1-0 and falling 3-1 to Liberty in a non-conference road trip to Lynchburg, Va. Olivia Shoemaker shined for the Explorers, netting two goals in as many games, jumping her season total to four, good for most on the team and tenth-most in the Atlantic 10. Shoemaker's recent performances have her atop the team leaderboard with eight points, followed by seven from Mariel Papa and Becca Chylak.

Defensively, GK Lisa Shaffer's 7.80 saves/game ranks first in the A-10 while D Olivia Leaman ranks second in defensive saves/game (.30).

Scouting the Bulldogs
Bryant enters the weekend losers of their last two, falling to Dartmouth 6-5 and Harvard 4-1 in their last two contests, both at home. The Bulldogs top offensive performer is sophomore F Rosie Bird, who is among the top five in the NEC in both points/game (1.56) and goals/game (.78). She was named NEC Co-Player of the week for September 24 after scoring four goals in the loss to Dartmouth. Junior F Kayleigh Ballantyne leads the conference in assists with seven. Junior GK Megan Hancook's 7.89 saves/game ranks second among conference goalies.

Scouting the Pioneers

After a blistering 4-1 start to its season, Sacred Heart has cooled off of late, dropping two of its last three, most recently a 3-1 loss at Yale. The Pioneers take on Lock Haven Saturday before traveling to 20th & Olney for their Sunday afternoon tilt with the Explorers.

The Pioneers are led by a duo of sisters, Liz and Sarah Bergman. Liz, a freshman forward, ranks in the top 10 in the NEC in shots/game (4.33) and goals/game (.50). Sarah, a sophomore MF has two assists on the year. She and her sister each have one game-winning goal on the season.

La Salle begins its A-10 schedule on Saturday, September 6 when they travel to Lock Haven.
