PHILADELPHIA - Senior guard
Shanel Harrison blew up the stat sheet on Sunday to lead the La Salle women's basketball squad past Temple, earning Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week honors for her effort.
Harrison drained a career-best 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, bettering her previous career high of 27 set against Boston College while a member of the Virginia Tech team. She also nabbed a La Salle season-high eight steals, which was just one off the school single-game record of nine, set in 1993. Harrison chipped in four rebounds and a blocked shot in her 38 minutes on the court.
The Big 5 honor is the first for Harrison, who is in her first year in an Explorer uniform.
With her 29 points, Harrison upped her season scoring average to 10.8 ppg and she contributes 6.2 rebounds per game.
Harrison and the rest of the Explorers return to action on Wednesday as they travel to UMass for an 11:45 a.m. tipoff at the Mullins Center.
