Brittany Wilson connected for a season-best 27 points and the La Salle women's basketball team led for much of the second half before falling to Richmond 67-62 on Monday night at the Robins Center in the Explorers' nonconference finale.
The contest does not count for the Atlantic 10 standings. Due to the expanded league, the Explorers (4-11) and Spiders (10-6) were not scheduled to play this season, but were permitted to play as a nonconference contest.
Shanel Harrison added 14 points and tied for a team-best eight rebounds.
Ebonee Jones also pulled down 10 boards while chipping in eight points and two blocked shots.
Becca Wann came off the Spider bench for double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Liz Brown led with 14 points and Kristina King chipped in 10.
Neither team led by more than eight points in a game that featured eight ties and four lead changes. The Explorers led 9-6 just over five minutes into the game before the Spiders opened an 11-0 run to take a 17-9 lead, capped by a Rachael Bilney triple.
Two Wilson free throws broke up the scoreless streak and the teams traded baskets before a King layup gave the Spiders an eight-point lead once again at 6:51. That was the largest margin of the game.

Michea Bryant free throws sparked a 10-0 Explorer run, which Bryant capped off with a jumper of her own at 3:55 to put the Explorers ahead 23-21. Richmond's Brown knotted the game at 27-27 with 24 seconds on the clock but a Jones jumper as time expired gave the Explorers the 29-27 halftime lead.
The teams mostly traded baskets early in the second half, until a 6-0 Explorer spurt gave them their largest lead of the game (7) at 42-35 with 12:11 on the clock.
Richmond creeped back with a 7-1 spurt but the Explorers never trailed until Bilney nailed the go-ahead three with 5:59 left. The Spiders went up five but Harrison tied things up at 57-57 with a jumper at 3:09.
Richmond's King hit go-ahead free throws at 2:49 and the Spiders outscored the Explorers 10-5 down the stretch for the final 67-62 score.
La Salle dominated the boards early, leading Richmond 24-15 on the glass at the half. The Spiders amped up in the second half and ended up edging the Explorers 45-43 on the boards.
The Explorers shot 39.3 percent (22-56) for the game, limiting Richmond to 32.9 percent (24-73). The Spiders, however, capitalized on 17 Explorers miscues and turned those into 22 points. The Explorers forced nine Richmond turnovers.
The Explorers return to action on Saturday (1/12) when they open Atlantic 10 play. They host Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m. in a doubleheader with the men's team.
