John McCarthy has been named Philadelphia Soccer 6 Defender of the Week, it was announced Monday. McCarthy played two strong games in net over the weekendĀ as the Explorers defeated Duquesne and St. Bonaventure in their opening Atlantic 10 weekend.Ā
The senior recorded seven saves in Friday's win over Duquesne, equaling his second-highest single game tally of the season. He turned away three more shots on Sunday vs. St. Bonaventure to help preserve a 2-1 win. The Cinnaminson, N.J. native posted an .833 save percentage over the two games, improving his season mark to .795 ā fourth in the conference. He ranks second in the A-10 in saves/game at 5.27.Ā
The Northeast Catholic product continues to climb the La Salle record book. He has upped his career save tally to 410, third in Explorer history. His start Sunday marked the 66
th of his career, as he passed Rich Scholer (1989-92) for second in program history among goalkeepers.Ā
