PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's cross country team will look to lock up its second Atlantic 10 title in three years on Saturday morning at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. The men's 8K is set to begin at 10:00 AM.
The Explorers placed third at the conference championships last season and are looking to take back the crown they captured in 2011. The meet will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 website (link provided above).
"Our goal is to win La Salle's ninth Atlantic 10 Championship and have all of our top five runners become all-conference," head coach Dan Ireland said.
If the regular season is any indication, Ireland's squad is in good position to reach their goal. The Explorers have not finished lower than sixth in any race thus far, most recently placing second at the Princeton Invitational on October 19.
"We have a very strong top five," Ireland said. "We have three individuals that I believe are capable of competing for the individual title in
Nico Greco,
Zach Sullivan, and
Nick Ross.
Vince Perozze and
Ian Barnhill both ran strong races at Princeton and are poised to race even better at A-10s."
Poise will be an important factor for the Blue and Gold, as they expect stiff competition at the event.
"As usual for the A-10 Conference Championship, it will be a very competitive field and the winning team will have to run its best to garner the top spot."
If the Explorers do so, it would mark their eighth conference championship in the last 13 years and their ninth in program history.
