All-Time Series
The Explorers and Jaspers are renewing their series after a 21-year hiatus; they have not met on the court since La Salle left the MAAC after the 1991-92 season. La Salle won the final three meetings, sweeping the Jaspers in 1991-92 with two regular season wins and a 67-55 MAAC Tournament win on March 7, 1992.
Sister Schools
La Salle and Manhattan, though not familiar on the court in the past 20 years, share a long institutional history. Both are Lasallian Catholic institutions, tracing their history back to the same Saint John Baptiste de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers.
Scouting the Jaspers
Manhattan opened its season with a 73-63 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, but has dropped its last two. The Jaspers fell 63-43 to Towson last Saturday and followed up with a 66-52 setback at Army. Sunday's game marks the home opener for the squad, which opened with three straight road games.
Senior guard Monica Roeder, a Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection, is leading the squad through three games, averaging 17.0 ppg after a 27-point output at Army. The 1,000-point career scorer was a Second Team selection a year ago. Nicole Isaacs is the one other Jasper in double figures, scoring 10.3 per contest. Roeder is also leading the squad on the glass with 7.0 boards per game, while rookie Kayla Grimme is pulling down 6.0 per game.
As a team, Manhattan is currently shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from long range, but only 59.5 percent at the free throw line. The Jaspers are limiting opponents to 36.9 percent and a paltry 23.3 percent from three-point range.
Manhattan was selected to finish 10th in the MAAC this season after an 8-23 overall (4-14 MAAC) record last season.
