La Salle Advances to A-10 Championship Final With 1-0 Overtime Victory

Box Score
RICHMOND, Va.—La Salle women's soccer advances to the Atlantic 10 Championship Final for the second consecutive year after an overtime 1-0 victory over Massachusetts.   Senior Renee Washington recorded the 40th goal of her career, tying the program's career record, en route to scoring the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in overtime.

While much of the first half was a back-and-forth affair, the Explorers began to hit their stride in the second frame and dominated the attack.  Much to the chagrin of the Explorers, who outshot the Minutewomen 22-9 in the contest, the outstanding play Massachusetts' goalkeeper Danielle Kriscenski kept the game scoreless through regulation.  Kriscenski recorded seven goals in the contest, several of which were diving efforts to keep the Minutewomen within striking distance.

It wasn't until the extra frame that the aggressive play of La Salle would prove fruitful, as junior Kelsey Haycook drew a foul on a Massachusetts defender while trying to chase down a Maryam Huseini cross into the box just over five minutes into overtime.  Because the foul occurred within the 18-yard box, La Salle was granted a penalty kick, an opportunity the Blue and Gold would capitalize on.

The goal was Washington's ninth of the season and tied La Salle's all-time career goals record (40) set by set by Amy Schneider in 2002.

Sophomore Jessica Wiggins earned the win in net, tallying four saves and improving to 15-4-2 this season.

La Salle will face the winner of #1 Dayton vs. #4 St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 1 p.m.  The winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
