Erin McCabe scored three goals and several others had multi-goal games as La Salle doubled up on Mount St. Mary's, 12-6, in the season opener for both squads at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Kelly Furman put together a four-point day on two goals and two assists, and
Katelyn Fay and
Lauren McDermott also recorded two apiece for the Explorers (1-0).
Mount St. Mary's (0-1) saw six goals from six different players.
"It's always great when you can open your season with a win and we had some great plays on both ends of the field," Head Coach

Maura Malone came up with some key saves at critical points in the game and with a well-balanced attack, we were able to capitalize on opportunities."

The Mountaineers drew first blood just over 1:30 into the game when Hayley Tomilson found the back of the net.
The Explorers responded with a three-goal run in the span of 2:14 to take a 3-1 lead. Furman drained the first of her three goals on an assist from
Caitlyn Brostrand at the 26:17 mark. McDermott followed up with her first of the afternoon a minute later before
Alanna Diffendal recorded her first season goal at 24:03.
Mount broke up the run with a Lindsay Diaz goal at 22:12, but McCabe struck for back-to-back goals to send the Explorers up 5-2. Her first score was assisted by Diffendal and the second assist credited to Furman.
Hannah Gutcher added another score for Mount with 18:32 left in the half to put the score at 5-3, but La Salle struck for two more. Sarcinello and Fay scored within a 27-second span of each other in the 16th minute for a 7-3 advantage, and neither team found the back of the net again for the remainder of the half.
McDermott struck for her second goal just 30 seconds into the second period and Mount's Allie Fife responded with a goal four minutes later.
Brostrand netted her first goal of the season with 24:06 left in the game and Furman scored her second of the day less than two minutes later as the Explorers went up 10-4.
The squads played scoreless ball for the next 10 minutes before Mount's Sam Sparr broke up the drought with 11:54 remaining. The squads traded goals down the stretch, including a second from Fay and McCabe's third, for the final 12-6 tally.
Senior goalkeeper
Maura Malone recorded seven saves in her season debut while facing 17 shots in the win. Sarah Jane Leder and Stephn Rurkowski split goalkeeping duties, with Leder suffering the loss. She made seven saves in the first half while yielding seven goals. Rurkowski recorded four saves in the second half while giving up five goals.
The Explorers outshot the Mountaineers 30-17, with 23 of La Salle's attempts being on goal. The Explorers also owned a 16-9 advantage in ground balls and controlled 14 draws to the Mountaineers' eight.
The Explorers return to action on Wednesday (2/20) with a showdown at crosstown foe Drexel at 4 p.m.
