PHILADELPHIA - Senior guard
Shanel Harrison was tabbed this week's Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
She shares the honor with Chatilla van Grinsven of Saint Joseph's.
Harrison poured in 21.5 points per game this week, including a 23-point effort in the Explorers' 49-46 win over Saint Louis on Wednesday. She banked in a three-pointer off the glass on a desperation shot at the buzzer to lift the squad to the win.
Harrison followed up with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead all scorers in a loss at VCU on Sunday.
Sunday's 20-point effort marked the eighth straight double digit scoring game for the senior, who has averaged 17.4 points per game in that eight-game span.
Harrison has stepped up her game since the Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule began, ranking in the top 15 in the conference in five categories in league play. She has averaged 15.4 points per game against A-10 opponents, ranking her fourth. She has also pulled down 7.2 rebounds (15th), snagged 2.4 steals (T-5th) and pulled down 3.0 offensive rebounds per game (T-9th), while improving her three-point shooting percentage to 37.0 percent (7th).
Harrison and the rest of the Explorers return to action on Wednesday when they head across town to Atlantic 10 and Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's. Tipoff at Hagan Arena is set for 7 p.m.
